Prior to conducting the Alanakar project (see Alanakar embroideries description), I worked with Zardozi Original, a group of ari embroiderers to create a several series of scarves with classic Mughal period patterning. My role in the process was selecting the 10 to 12 colours for each scarf. The embroidery is of exception quality, detailed and beautifully realized.
Zardozi Original, is a small enterprise led by Heera Mondal, an exceptionally skilled embroiderer from Katra Village, Howrah District, West Bengal, India. My work with them was facilitated by CRC Exports, Kolkata, West Bengal. The embroidery on some scarves is denser than others.
